“We speak the same language,” remarked Peter Copping of himself and Oscar de la Renta. It’s a language of glamour, elegance, and romance, but Copping isn’t afraid to add a little of his own vernacular into the mix. We’d say the brand’s Fall campaign, debuting exclusively here, dares venture to add the words undone and relaxed into the OED. (That’s the Oscar English Dictionary, for the uninitiated.)
Starring Carolyn Murphy in Copping’s sweeping gowns and delicate cocktail numbers, the David Sims-lensed images, with creative collaboration from Alex White, are a touch more dishabille than ads past. “I wanted the Fall Oscar de la Renta campaign to express the couture spirit that has always been associated with the house,” remarked Copping in a release, adding, “Carolyn Murphy, a natural beauty, seen through the lens of David Sims captures perfectly what I was looking for—a modern Oscar woman.” That modern Oscar woman is not afraid to slouch in a skirtsuit or show a little skin between the slits of her dress, though she’s still as meticulously put together as ever. Some things, for good reason, never change.
